Code of Conduct

We expect all participants (AAA staff, attendees, and speakers) to abide by this Code of Conduct in all events–online and in-person–as well as in all one-on-one communications.

The following behaviours are expected and requested of all AAA members, speakers, and attendees:

  • Engage in nonviolent communication. "Compassion for the individuals, anger at the system."

  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech.

  • Be open to others' feedback when they express discomfort or hurt over your behaviour.

  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality needs of other members or attendees.

The following behaviours are unacceptable both online and offline including on social media accounts.

  • Violence, threats of violence, or violent language directed against another person.

  • Speciesist, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, ageist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.

  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.

  • Hacking, impersonation, or any other form of virtual harassment.

  • Inappropriate photography or recording.

  • Inappropriate physical contact, including any non-consensual physical contact (no matter how seemingly benign).

  • Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes sexualised comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, unwelcome sexual advances, invasion of personal space, and any other behaviour that makes another member/attendee sexually uncomfortable.

  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following (online or in-person).

  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour.

Consequences of Unacceptable Behaviour
Unacceptable behaviour from anyone will not be tolerated.

In serious cases, we may need to take legal interventions.
