OUR CORE VALUES

We stand against all forms of oppression.
OPEN TO CHANGE AND LEARNING

OUR STORY
Animal Alliance Asia (AAA) was founded in 2019 by two Asian women. Our Country Directors – the most integral parts of AAA – are all from their respective countries, based there, speak the local languages, and have lived experiences being an advocate in the given cultural context. This unique makeup of our team and our dedication to creating a safer space make us a first-of-our-kind organization, and the local network of communities we have built over the years is our greatest strength.
Asian Leadership & Cultural Relevant Approaches
Asia is our home. Our fight continues everyday, on the ground.
Nurturing Asian leadership is our strategy to create impactful and long-lasting change for farmed animals.
A locally led movement has the expertise in the complexity of social issues that are directly connected to the farmed animal exploitation and is able to implement approaches that work within that given cultural context. A study recommends us to “approach movement building by viewing the diversity of experiences and strategies within the movement as an asset” and “Reconsider and expand views on what makes for “effective” advocacy.” These approaches are crucial in practising anti-oppressive animal advocacy as they also allow us to “Recognize human exploitation in animal agriculture and the opportunity for collaboration with those humans exploited or otherwise directly harmed by animal agriculture.”
Movement Building
We need movement building efforts in Asia to welcome more advocates, grow in size, see more initiatives and more diverse interventions in order for our movement to become resilient.
For us, it’s not just a means to an end to expand the pool of recruitable talents. We see it in a much more long-term and wider context - it’s about creating a movement represented by a more diverse community advocating for non-human animals.
With our track record on building rapport with advocates, coupled with research on movement gaps and understanding of culture-specific challenges and solutions, we are ideally positioned to contribute to the growth of the movement
For successful movement building, our programs aim to:
Understand the current landscape of our movement across Asia
Identify gaps in resources and knowledge
Train advocates targeting to fill these gaps
Support local, culturally relevant projects through grants and mentorship
OUR KEY DIFFERENTIATORS
AAA is the only organisation in the world that is led by a group of advocates from different countries across Asia dedicated to building a culturally relevant animal justice movement.
We believe that making effective, impactful and long-lasting change requires people with lived experiences in on-the-ground advocacy and leadership in the decision-making process.
We know that how we get there also matters – because we cannot achieve our goal alone.
This is why Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are at the very core of our work and in our DNA – because without fostering a safer space for advocates, the same systemic oppression that we are trying to dismantle would be replicated in our movement, and underrepresented communities and voices will be further marginalised. We are here to offer an alternative, nourishing, welcoming, empowering, collaborative and Asian people-led space – so that more people can advocate for non-human animals.
We are proud to be part of a movement of advocates who want to live in a world where animals are no longer exploited for human use. In order to make this a reality, we need a diverse community of people to advocate for animals.
