“Young Rural Girls as Vegan Ambassadors in India”: A ReRoot Asia Fund 2023 Grantee 🌱

We're excited to share a success story with you! 🤩✨

52 schoolgirls in India became local vegan ambassadors thanks to the amazing work of ACTIF Trust, a ReRoot Asia Fund 2023 grantee.

Action for Community Transformation India Foundation Trust has been supporting Tribal Communities since 1995 with programs aimed at improving literacy and education, supporting foster care, raising awareness about wildlife conservation, planting trees, and issues related to their land rights and livelihood. It has since expanded to support women labourers and dalits, focusing on the women and children of these communities.

It was from this focus and experience that the "Young Rural Girls as Vegan Ambassadors" program was born. The goal was to empower 50 girl students to become local vegan ambassadors by providing them with healthy vegan meals, information on veganism and nutrition, and by actively involving them in animal welfare activities. As part of the program, a community kitchen prepared vegan snacks and refreshments, educational activities such as lectures and games were held, and the girls participated in a survey of domestic animals in their village, educating families on animal welfare and care. The meals that were prepared were also taught to the families, and were based on cost-effective locally available products. Health was a main focus, with the nutrition of the girls being monitored and with activities also covering health and hygiene awareness.

The feedback from the community was very positive, and the program was a huge success! The children participated happily, their families were glad to learn about the economic and health benefits of the vegan meals, and local officials praised the idea and its healthy results 🥳
